Equipment
In Athens Mastering analog and digital audio processors are of the latest high end technology. Digital processing is made by Weiss EQ1 digital EQ and the DS1 mkII frequency compressor – limiter- deesser of the same maker. With the above equipment in the digital domain any task can be realized with maximum quality and definition.
It is widely aknowledged that analog processing is unsurpraised in creativity and warm character even for digital material.
In analogue domain there is a hi-end analogue chain with Dangerous Music analog mastering console that include the Dangerous Master and Dangerous Monitor. Analog processing are made by Avalon 2077 mastering EQ , Manley Massive Passive tube EQ, Dangerous BAX baxandall EQ as also Charter Oak SCL-1 Compressor. For our summing technics as also mastering in stems, we use the the Thermionic Fat Bastard tube summing mixer.
Conversion of analog signals to digital and digital signals to analog are very important and at Athens Mastering we frequently test all available solutions for transparent and accurate conversion. We choose the Weiss ADC1 and DAC1 as also Dangerous Monitor, Grace m903 and Metric Halo LIO-8 for our different conversion needs.
Working in high resolution becomes very important factor the way we convert to 44.1kHz/16bit for CD releases. We are able to choose and use among different algorithms among which are SBM by Sony and POW-R redithering – noise shaping.
Cabling also is a very important factor for the quality of the sound .In AM we used the Best of Cables for analog and digital signals like Mogami, Belden as also Transparent in critical parts.
We faced also the threat of jitter with antijitter devices by Weiss.
Restoration and Remastering is a very important and critical section. 78 rpm old records to LPs and tapes or cassettes are processed in an ideal way by NoNoise system of Sonic Solutions and Weiss famous DNA1 restoration system. Results are impressive in restoring the material without or with a minimal change in the original character of the recordings.
